About El Paso Cosmetic Surgery

The El Paso Cosmetic Surgery Center features one of the most highly regarded cosmetic surgeons in the country.

Dr. Ozan Sozer is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and is internationally renowned among academic institutions like Harvard Medical School for his contributions to surgical medicine and for pioneering innovative body contouring techniques.

Now, Dr. Sozer is taking on a new role in academia by taking future surgeons under his wings through a much sought after surgical fellowship for physicians from as far away as Turkey, Moscow, Mexico and Guatemala to name a few.

At El Paso Cosmetic Surgery, breast augmentation is performed at our on-site surgical center. During the procedure, an implant is placed under the breast muscle or under the breast tissue. The location of the incision made during the procedure will determine the appearance of the resulting scar, and our surgeon makes every effort to use incisions that will minimize or hide the scar. Incisions can be hidden in the breast crease, around the areola, or in the axilla (armpit).

Options for Breast Implants

There are several sizes, shapes, and types of breast implants available, and we will make a recommendation based on your goals and preferences, your body frame and mass, and your existing breast tissue. Breast implants include a solid silicone shell, called a lumen, and are filled with saline (sterile salt water) or silicone (a soft elastic gel). Saline implants are filled with the desired amount of solution after they are placed, while silicone breast implants are pre-filled and may require a longer incision for placement. Current scientific literature supports the use of silicone-gel-filled implants as a choice for women seeking breast implant surgery, and both saline and silicone implants are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Breast augmentation patients can go home the same day of their surgery, and they can go back to performing moderate activities within a week to ten days. Vigorous activities such as sports and activities involving arm movement should be avoided for three to four weeks. Patients may return to all of their normal activities in about three months.

While breast enlargement with implants does not increase the risk of cancer, it does interfere with the ability of a mammogram to detect suspicious lesions. A mammogram performed before surgery can help physicians detect changes in mammograms performed after surgery. Previous research has proven that a mammogram is affected less when the implant is placed under the chest muscle rather than just under the breast tissues.

Breast augmentation complications may include bleeding, infection, and adverse reactions to the anesthesia. Patients may experience some changes in nipple or breast sensation, but this usually subsides within a month or two.

After surgery, the body forms a capsule around the implant, which is part of the natural healing process. However, this capsule sometimes tightens and compresses the implant, causing the breast to feel firmer than normal. In these circumstances, it may be necessary to re-operate on the patient to modify the implant, remove the scar tissue, or perhaps remove the implant.

By having a board certified plastic surgeon patients can be sure that their doctors:

  • Have at least 6 years of surgical training and experience, with a minimum of 2 years in plastic surgery.
  • Are trained and experienced in all plastic surgery procedures, including breast, body, face and reconstruction.
  • Operate only in accredited medical facilities.
  • Adhere to a strict code of ethics.
  • Fulfill continuing medical education requirements, including standards and innovations in patient safety.
